2026-2027: Tuesday Homeschool Program
Our homeschool at the farm is designed to nurture children’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development with the majority of time outdoors - on the farm and in the fields and forests surrounding the barnyard. Over the course of the year, children experience immersive, farm-based education. The farm itself serves as a classroom, where nature is the teacher and our experienced farm educators guide learning through the lens of agriculture and environmental literacy. With exploration, observation, and active engagement, participants develop a deeper understanding of the natural world, food systems, and the rhythms of the seasons - all while building meaningful connections to the land and to others. The program includes: Gardening and Community: Homeschool students have their own garden space to tend and produce their own food to eat and to share with others through our farm-to-food-pantry program. Forest and Meadow Exploration: The group will take excursions into the forest and fields to learn about our local ecosystem. Animal Husbandry: Children do real work on the farm - including caring for our goats, donkey, and chickens. Group projects and social skills: Children practice cooperation and problem-solving, as well have ample time for free play and socializing. Farm educators work with families to design curriculum that meets the learning and development needs of each child. FAMILY INVOLVEMENT: In addition to a weekly newsletter, families will be invited to participate in monthly markets, presentations, or meals prepared by the groups. If family members have specific skills they would like to share with the group, we welcome your knowledge and expertise. Note: In the spring of 2027, we have plans to construct a dedicated program and event building on the farm following sustainable building practices. The project should not impact the homeschool program as the building site and access road will be behind the barnyard. The construction could provide an opportunity for the students to follow the progress each week and to make connections to the technologies and designs they have learned about throughout the year. If you have questions about the new building, please reach out to our Executive Director, Meredith Laban meredith@hollyhillfarm.org.
